Only fully vaccinated visitors from visa-free nations are permitted to enter the Philippines.

Beginning February 10, only fully vaccinated foreign nationals from over 150 countries will be able to enter the country without a visa, according to the Bureau of Immigration (BI).

Foreigners whose countries of nationality are not mentioned under Executive Order (EO) 408 are not eligible for the visa-free status and must get visas before visiting the Philippines, according to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente.

Nationals of 157 countries are eligible to enter the country without a visa for a 30-day first stay under the EO.

Canada, Japan, Singapore, the United States, New Zealand, Malaysia, and South Korea are among the countries involved.

Foreign visitors from countries not named in the EO must get a 9(a) visa and an entry exemption document (EED) from any of the Philippine embassies or consulates overseas, according to the BI head.

“They should also be fully vaccinated,” he stressed, adding that even if they have valid 9(a) visas and EED, they will be denied admission if they are not fully vaccinated.

All immigrants entering the country must now show confirmation of full immunization, according to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases, according to Morente (IATF).

Visitors who do not comply will be turned away at airports and sent on the first available flight back to their point of origin.

A negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test taken at least 48 hours prior to departure from their country of origin, a return ticket, a passport valid for at least six months, and travel and health insurance for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) with a minimum coverage of US$35,000 valid for the duration of their stay were also required by the task force.

Meanwhile, he stated that former Filipinos are eligible for the one-year Balikbayan privilege, but that they must be completely vaccinated before entering the nation.

Former nationals, as well as their foreign spouses and dependents traveling with them, are permitted to enter the country without a visa for a period of one year under the program.
