The number of daily Covid-19 cases may fall below 100 by mid-March, according to the Department of Health.

MANILA, Philippines — The number of daily coronavirus cases could drop below 100 by March 15 if the public continues to follow health and safety protocols, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, citing forecasts from the FASSSTER (Feasibility Analysis of Syndromic Surveillance using Spatio-temporal Epidemiological Modeler for Early Detection of Diseases) team, stated the numbers might drop further to 83 daily cases.

The projection is based on existing knowledge of the Omicron variant’s features as well as other factors such as mobility, vaccination coverage, and protocol adherence.

“[K]ung ang pagsunod natin sa minimum public health standards ay mapapabayaan, ang projected cases ay maaring manatiling mataas,” Vergeire said in a virtual media briefing. “Nasa 2,077 cases ang inaasahan na bilang na kaso kung may 12 percent decrease sa ating pag-comply sa minimum

If compliance falls to 19 percent, the number of cases per day might rise to 7,748 each day, she said.

In the last seven days, the average daily cases have been 3,521, indicating a steady reduction in infections across the country.

Most of the Philippines’ areas are classified as low-risk, according to Vergeire, with the exception of Regions 6, 11, 12, and the Cordillera Administrative Region, which is classified as intermediate risk.

Except for Region 11, where the intensive care use rate is still 63.9 percent, putting it in the moderate category, the national healthcare system’s capacity is similarly in good shape.

More than 61.6 million people have received their Covid-19 vaccination doses, with another 61.2 million waiting for their second shot. As of February 14, a total of 9,161,128 persons had gotten their booster dose.

Since the introduction of pediatric immunization, almost 148,000 children aged five to eleven have received their first shots.
