Richard Gomez pledges to enhance the 4th district of Leyte.

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – Richard Gomez, an actor-turned-politician, has stated that if elected to the House of Representatives, he will not be a member of the “silent committee.”

Gomez, the current mayor of Ormoc City, claims to be well-versed in the legislative process in Congress, having served as chief of staff to his celebrity wife, Lucy Torres-Gomez, for nine years.

In this year’s elections, the couple will try to swap positions.

“At the House of Representatives, I shall not be a bystander.” I will actively participate in committee and plenary debates and advocate for my district’s best interests. “I will make certain that the 4th district of Leyte receives its fair share,” Gomez stated in a statement released on Tuesday.

After some of his critics questioned his ability on Facebook, the official made a statement reminding voters in northwest Leyte that governance is not a “talent show.”

Gomez, who has served as mayor of Ormoc City for the previous six years, is competing against Gregorio Larrazabal, a lawyer and former Commission on Elections commissioner.

Gomez stated that he will participate in House of Representatives budget talks and ensure that Leyte’s 4th district receives the necessary resources for social services and financial support for infrastructure development.

The official promised to lobby for legislation to maintain national government support for the Leyte geothermal power plant, including infrastructure improvements that would not only provide jobs for city inhabitants but also improve the plant’s operations and output.

In Ormoc City and Kananga, Leyte, the Energy Development Corp. operates one of the world’s largest geothermal facilities (9711.4 megawatts).

Measures for youth and sports development, anti-illegal drugs, and the imposition of harsh punishments on sources of fake news are among the other goals.

Ormoc City with the nearby towns of Albuera, Isabel, Kananga, Matag-ob, Merida, and Palompon make up Leyte’s 4th district.

A total of 471,197 people live in these locations.
