MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte remarked on Tuesday that the Elevated Extension Project of the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) might help the country’s economic recovery from the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

“At a time when our economy is progressively opening up and recuperating from the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic,” Duterte stated during the inauguration of the expansion project at the Alabang Northbound Entry in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

He claims that the expansion project will improve mobility, reduce traffic congestion, and boost economic growth and productivity in Metro Manila and its environs.

He praised the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and its private partners for the SLEX Elevated Extension Project’s successful inauguration, saying it demonstrates the government’s commitment to pursuing sustainable and resilient infrastructure projects despite the ongoing pandemic’s challenges.

“I’d like to emphasize my administration’s unwavering commitment to completing important infrastructure projects and long-term development programs,” he said.

“Let me tell the entire nation that we will not relent in our efforts to provide a more comfortable living for everyone through secure and reliable infrastructure. We foresee and will realize for the Filipino people a modern, sustainable, and inclusive society “Added he.

The proposed project, according to San Miguel Corp. president and CEO Ramon Ang, can accommodate roughly 200,000 cars every day and will cut travel time between Muntinlupa and Balintawak in Quezon City from two hours to 25 to 30 minutes.
