BUTUAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Tourism in Caraga (DOT-13) on Wednesday formally inaugurated “Caraga Na,” a new project to promote tourism in the region, as the country prepares to return to normal after two years of closure due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

The three-day tourism promotion program at SM City was kicked off by DOT-13 Regional Director Nelia Arina.

The DOT-13 said in a statement that “Caragan Na” is a call to action for a more proactive domestic tourism marketing.

“This is also an invitation to all tourists to come and see what Caraga has to offer with its diverse range of products, including conquering its mountainous terrain, frolicking in its crystal clear waters, being mesmerized by its breathtaking landscapes, and getting a full dose of adrenaline rush from its various adventures,” the statement read.

Through a new tagline under the new normal, the program is also perceived as sustaining the agency’s efforts to promote regional circuits and tourism-related activities.

The three-day event will highlight various tourism attractions and locations in the provinces of Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the Dinagat Islands, as well as the region’s six cities of Butuan, Cabadbaran, Surigao, Tandag, Bislig, and Bayugan.

The limits implemented by the government to contain the Covid-19 since March 2020 have had a significant impact on the primary tourism activities of Caraga.

According to the DOT-13, at least 80% of Caraga’s tourism economy was harmed by the pandemic.
