To speed up transactions and services, an EO on national ID acceptance has been issued.
Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson of the Partido Reporma applauded President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s executive order on Thursday establishing the Philippine Identification (PhiIID) or Philippine Identification System Number (PSN) as adequate proof of identity in all private and government transactions.
He went on to say that this will make life better for Filipinos and foreign nationals living and doing business in the Philippines.
“President Rodrigo Duterte, thank you for this. As an author/sponsor of the Senate bill and a longtime supporter of the National ID system, I wholeheartedly agree with you on this issue “Lacson stated this on Twitter.
“An urgent need to institutionalize the acceptance of the PhilID and PSN, as authenticated, as sufficient proof of identity and age in all government and private transactions, to improve efficiency in the delivery of social services, strengthen financial inclusion, and promote ease of doing business,” the President stated in Executive Order 162.
Lacson introduced and co-sponsored the PhilSys (National ID) bill in the Senate, hoping to improve access to social services for all Filipinos while simultaneously combating crime.
He emphasized the importance of the national ID system is speeding up government delivery of social and other public services, as well as public access to private-sector services – all without the burden of bringing several ID cards issued by various agencies.
Lacson, who worked as a cop for 30 years, emphasized the importance of the national ID system in providing police with the tools they need to combat crime and corruption.
He stated that the national ID system will aid the government in improving its revenue collecting mechanism.
Lacson, on the other hand, renewed his request for the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to address the issue of national ID card delivery delays and to ramp up its communication campaign about how to apply for PhilSys cards.
“The PSA should speed up the printing and delivery of national ID cards, as well as renew and expand its communication campaign on how Filipinos can apply for them,” he said.
Duterte signed Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, into law in August 2018, with the goal of creating a single national ID for all Filipinos and resident immigrants.
The national ID will serve as valid evidence of identity that will make public and private transactions, school enrollment, and bank account opening easier.
It will also increase efficiency, particularly when interacting with government services since people will simply have to display their PhilID during transactions.
