PAMPANGA’S CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Farmers and residents in Barangay Pias, General Tinio, Nueva Ecija now have easier access to markets thanks to the completion of a three-kilometer farm-to-market route.

Agatou Victoria, a farmer who has lived in Barangay Pias for 65 years, said that when the road was concreted, travel time out of their community was substantially decreased, making it easier to deliver their gathered commodities to markets or straight to purchasers.

Victoria described the hardships that the community encountered prior to the construction of the road.

Getting vegetables here by automobile was severely hampered),” he claimed in a Department of Public Works and Highways-Central Luzon (DPWH-3) social media post on Thursday.

Roberto Bago, a local farmer who has lived in the region for 17 years, praised the DPWH for paving the farm-to-market road.

The newly finished PHP11.7 million farm-to-market road is part of the DPWH and Department of Agriculture (DA) convergence initiative funded under the General Appropriations Act of 2021, according to Elpidio Y. Trinidad, head of the DPWH-Nueva Ecija Second District Engineering Office.

Under the DPWH-DA convergence program, three farm-to-market roads were also built in Nueva Ecija last year.
