OFs and OFWs who have tested positive for Covid will be quarantined at a field hospital in Manila.

The Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital will now isolate and confine returning overseas Filipinos (OFs) and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who test positive for the coronavirus illness 2019 (Covid-19).

On Friday, a total of 104 OFs and OFWs with moderate symptoms or asymptomatic findings in their reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction tests were transported to the 344-bed Manila hospital for quarantine.

The opening of the facility for OFs and OFWs was observed by Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III, vaccine czar, National Task Force Against Covid-19 chairman Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) Director Obet Salvador, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso.

“Itong araw na ito ay significant sa BOQ at DOH dahil Mayor Isko na pina-unlakan tayo na tanggapin ‘yung mga OFW natin na nag positive, mild, and asymptomatic dito sa Manila quarantine facility,” said Mayor Isko. Mayor Isko consented to receive positive, mild, and asymptomatic OFWs at this quarantine facility, therefore this day is highly crucial for BOQ and DOH. They will cover the costs till they are permitted to return home),” Salvador stated at the event.

The Manila Covid-19 Field Hospital, according to Domagoso, was created at Rizal Park, a national government property, as part of the city’s commitment to the fight against Covid-19.

“Meron kaming commitment sa national government, ‘wag kayo mag-alala,” he said. If anuman ang tinatag namin sa property nyo ay siya naming pagagamit namin at ise-share namin para tulong tulong (If anuman ang tinatag namin sa property nyo ay siya naming pagagamit namin at ise-share namin para tulong tulong We assured them that whatever we construct on its land would be used and shared). “This shows our commitment to the national government in combating this terrible disease,” Domagoso remarked.

According to Duque, the city government of Taguig has also pledged to assist the national government by enabling their quarantine facilities to be used for the same purpose.

Officials do not believe it is necessary to raise the quarantine classification of the National Capital Region (NCR) at this time because the region is currently considered low risk.

“We’ll take the required precautions based on the bilis na pagkapuno ng ating mga facilities.” Gagamitin muna natin ‘yung worst-case scenario for Delta surge as a proxy indicator. From January 1 to 15, ang ating advice is manatili tayo sa Level 2 (depending on how our facilities are used). The worst-case scenario for Delta surge will be used as a proxy indicator. From January 1 to 15, we recommend staying under Level 2),” Duque stated.

According to Duque, the current healthcare use rate in the NCR is between 24 and 25 percent.

“Ang ginagamit natin na panukatan ang health-care use rate is kung 50 to 59 percent.” That’s a low-risk situation. The healthcare utilization rate we use is when it is between 60 and 69 percent, then 70 to 84 percent is a high risk, and Alert Level 5 mag-e-ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) kung lagpas ng 85 percent (The healthcare utilization rate we use is when it is between 50 and 59 percent). Low risk is 60 to 69 percent, the moderate risk is 70 to 84 percent, and high risk is 70 to 84 percent. “If it rises above 85 percent, we’ll go to Alert Level 5 and have ECQ,” Duque stated.
