MANILA, Philippines — The eight-kilometer North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway (NLEX-SLEX) Connector Road Project is 45 percent complete, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

It will extend NLEX southward from Segment 10 to Skyway Stage 3 once completed.

The inspection of the ongoing construction of the second portion of the NLEX Connector at España, Manila, was headed by DPWH Senior Undersecretary Rafael Yabut, who was representing Acting Secretary Roger Mercado.

He said the concessionaire, Manila North Tollways Corporation (MNTC), indicated that civil work on the project, which will serve as the first connection toll road for all vehicles, including heavy trucks, is about complete.

Section 1 of the project, which runs 5.15 kilometers from C3 Caloocan to España, Manila, is now 64.5 percent complete, while Section 2 of the project, which runs 2.75 kilometers from España, Manila to PUP Sta. Mesa, Manila, is currently 3.1 percent complete.

The elevated road will cut travel time from SLEX to NLEX to about 20 minutes when it is finished, benefiting at least 35,000 motorists/vehicles every day.

Travel time from Clark to Calamba will be decreased from three hours to one hour and 40 minutes when using the four-lane toll road.

DPWH Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral, Assistant Secretary Wilfredo Mallari, Directors Constante Llanes Jr. and Alex Bote, and officials from the NLEX Corporation also attended the project inspection.

The PHP23.2 billion NLEX-SLEX Connector Road Project commenced construction in May 2019.

By the third quarter of 2023, the multibillion-peso project should be completed.
