ZAMBOANGA CITY – Malacanang has designated February 26 as a special non-working day in this city to commemorate the 85th anniversary of Zamboanga City’s Charter Day.

President Rodrigo Duterte authorized Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to issue Proclamation 1304 on February 10 to formalize the announcement.

The declaration, according to Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, is designed to give people of this city “complete opportunity to enjoy and participate in the occasion with suitable ceremonies pursuant to the national government’s public health regulations.”

The Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga commemorates the day when the city’s appointed officials, led by then-Mayor Nicasio Valderoza, gained control of the local government.

For the last two weeks of the month, there will be three holidays in this city: February 25, a special non-working holiday under Proclamation 1236 commemorating the 36th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution; February 26, the Dia de Zamboanga; and February 28, a Muslim legal holiday commemorating Prophet Mohammad’s ascension to heaven commemorated by Israh Wal Mi’raj.

Meanwhile, the local government’s Public Employment Service Office is holding a job expo on Thursday that will offer 1,295 openings (PESO).

The job fair is part of the city’s charter festivities, according to PESO manager Maria Socorro Rojas.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the job fair will be placed at the East Wing of KCC-Mall de Zamboanga. The event, which took place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., was organized in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment and other relevant agencies.
