In February, BOC reports a P8.7-B collecting excess.

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Tuesday that it had exceeded its February collection target by more than 17%.

The BOC claimed it had collected a total of PHP59.036 billion, an increase of about PHP8.7 billion over its target collection of PHP50.302 billion, according to the latest preliminary report from its Financial Service.

The ports of San Fernando, Manila, Manila International Container Port, Batangas, Iloilo, Cebu, Tacloban, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri, and Limay all exceeded their monthly collection targets, according to the report.

The favorable result reflects the bureau’s continuous and positive monthly collection over several months, and is related to improved valuation and increased collection operations at all ports.

“We’ve been posting a surplus in our collecting since 2020.” This is a solid sign that the Bureau of Customs’ changes are effective. In a Viber message, Assistant Commissioner Vincent Philip Maronilla stated, “It is also a testimonial to the brave effort of the men and women of the BOC to carry out their duty despite numerous circumstances.”

Since January, the bureau has collected PHP117.524 billion, accounting for 17.3 percent of the yearly target collection for 2022.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero praised the District Collectors and the men and women of the BOC for their unshakable devotion and dedication to duty, despite the risk to their health and safety.

Aside from the excellent results, the Bureau kept its border security measures in place to prevent undervaluation, misdeclaration, and other forms of technical smuggling, as well as collect legal money.
