DOH reports that 736K children aged 5 to 11 have been immunized.
MANILA, Philippines โ Since the pediatric immunization program began on February 7, a total of 736,880 children aged 5 to 11 years old have been immunized against Covid-19, according to a health official.
“Ang lahat ng mga magulang at legal guardian ay amin pong hinihikayat na magparehistro na para sa kanila pong mga anak para sa karagdagang proteksiyon para sa lalong madaling panahon (We expect the numbers to rise in the coming weeks, so we encourage parents and legal guardians to register their children for additional protection immediately),”
9.5 million adolescents have been properly vaccinated against Covid-19 in the meantime.
The Department of Health (DOH) has stated that about 10 million Filipinos had received booster vaccinations to date.
It reassured the public that all vaccines given as booster doses are of high quality and can provide further protection against Covid-19-related hospitalization or even death.
“Those who were vaccinated with AstraZeneca, Gamaleya Sputnik V and light, Moderna and Pfizer, Sinopharm and Sinovac, and Sinopharm and Sinovac can now receive their booster shots after three months, and those who were vaccinated with Jansen can now receive their booster shots after two months,” Vergeire said.
She went on to say that those who have been properly vaccinated can get a different type of Covid-19 as a booster shot after their main doses.
She also reminded the public that adults aged 18 and above are eligible for booster injections, while children aged 5 to 11 are eligible for their initial round of Covid-19 vaccinations.
63 million people have been properly vaccinated.
The Department of Health announced on the first anniversary of the Resbakuna Program that 63 million Filipinos have been properly vaccinated against Covid-19.
During its first phase, the program focused on inoculating those who are most at risk of contracting Covid-19, including as medical personnel, senior citizens, and persons with comorbidities.
According to the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC), 93 percent of healthcare personnel, 62.82 percent of seniors, and 92 percent of those with comorbidities have all been properly vaccinated.
“We are currently seeing a reduction in the number of cases, which peaked in January, as we realize a wider and more complete national vaccination coverage in addition to basic public health standards.” This “provides a clearer picture of what the World Health Organization (WHO) had previously envisioned in nations with high vaccination rates,” the DOH said in a news release on Tuesday. “Transmissions of the virus do not automatically lead to stressing the health system and its capacity.”
“We are confident that we will be able to reach our target population as we make vaccination coverage wider and more accessible for everyone,” said Myrna C. Cabotaje, Chair of the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) and Undersecretary of Health of the Field Implementation and Coordination Team (NCR and Luzon).
The Department of Health continues to work to protect the public through initiatives such as National Vaccination Days, Resbakuna sa Botika, and vaccinations at pharmacies, primary care and occupational health clinics, as well as air, sea, and transportation terminals for the aged and vulnerable.
With the loosening of limitations, the DOH reminded the people to understand the necessity of staying protected through immunization and adherence to minimum health standard standards as Metro Manila and 38 localities were placed under Alert Level 1.
“As the country commemorates the Resbakuna program’s achievements, I’d want to express my gratitude to the nearly 63 million Filipinos who have trusted and believed in our Covid-19 vaccines. I’d want to thank the national government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, and development partners who helped to make all of this possible. The Department of Health is grateful to our private-sector partners, volunteers, and the media for their kind efforts in making the program a success. All of this demonstrates that vaccines and booster shots remain the best long-term solution for combating the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque III.
