ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — The city government is placing an automatic vehicle locator (AVL) on all of its security sector’s mobile assets, particularly those provided by the municipal government.

The improvement is part of the emergency dispatch system being built in the Security and Surveillance Coordinating Office’s command center.

The AVL is a high-tech system, according to Christopher Mandi, command center chief, that will become the backbone of a localized emergency hotline that can be accessed through mobile phone using a one-push alert button.

Mandi stated that the installation of 70 AVL on all cars that the municipal government has turned over to the security sector is now being completed.

He said that the acquisition of security vehicles was in keeping with Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-dedication Salazar’s to safety.

Vehicles of the Zamboanga City Police Office, Joint Task Force Zamboanga, Bureau of Fire Prevention, and Emergency Medical Services are believed to be equipped with AVL devices.

The command center would feature a dashboard (live map) showing the real-time location of all security assets, including motorcycles, with the AVL, he stated.

Mandi claimed that when emergency services are dispatched, the vehicle closest to the scene of the event will respond, and the system would even recommend a route based on real-time traffic.

According to Mandi, the sophisticated public safety system is just the second one to be established in the country, following Valenzuela City.

The AVL system is developed for surveillance operations, allowing law enforcement teams to track and monitor cars in a stealthy manner.

By acquiring data from global positioning system satellites, AVL systems can provide vehicle information to investigators, such as location, speed, and stops.
