The British army has confirmed that active personnel has visited Ukraine.
LONDON, UK — A handful of active British soldiers have traveled to Ukraine to fight with the country’s troops against Russian forces, according to the British army.
According to Sky News, the military is “aware of a limited number of individual soldiers who have defied orders and gone away without leave and may have traveled to Ukraine in a personal role.”
“The spokeswoman stated, “We are actively and firmly pushing them to return to the United Kingdom.”
“Reports in a weekend newspaper about three members who went AWOL over the weekend,” Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said earlier.
“They’ll be breaking the law, and when they return, they’ll be prosecuted for going on leave without permission or deserting,” he said.
According to The Sun, a teen soldier wrote his parents a goodbye note and purchased a ticket to Poland, hoping to enter into Ukraine after leaving his barracks in Windsor.
The servicemen’s activities, according to Transportation Secretary Grant Shapps, put them in a “hazardous situation” with the Russian state, which the Kremlin could exploit if they were apprehended.
“All service personnel is barred from traveling to Ukraine till further notice,” a Ministry of Defense spokeswoman stated.
“Personnel who travel to Ukraine will be subject to disciplinary and administrative action.”
Ex-soldiers
Meanwhile, despite the government’s travel caution to Ukraine, parties of the former British military have visited the nation.
According to accounts, one of the troops is Ben Grant, the son of a Conservative member of parliament and former government minister Helen Grant.
According to the Evening Standard, the former marine spoke to reporters in the Ukrainian city of Lviv and said he came to Ukraine after witnessing a film of a Russian airstrike on a house where a child was heard screaming in terror.
“I thought to myself, ‘I’m a father of three,’ and ‘I know what I’d do if that was my kids.’ “I’d go fight,” he declared.
“Then I realized I’d like another group of individuals who might be able to assist me to come and assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me, to assist me,
“It’s unlawful as well as counterproductive for the UK military and the UK public to start going towards Ukraine,” Britain’s army leader Admiral Sir Tony Radakin warned last weekend.
