‘Watched’ areas under Alert Level 2 for possible de-escalation

MANILA, Philippines — Dr. Ted Herbosa, the National Task Force (NTF) against Covid’s special medical adviser, said Thursday that the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) will definitely review the Covid-19 situations and vaccination coverage of areas placed under the less restrictive Alert Level 2 System for possible downgrade to the most lenient Alert Level 1 System.

According to Herbosa, these locations should obtain a vaccination rate of more than 70% of their target population, with 80% of older residents and people with comorbidities having already been vaccinated.

“So, the IATF will review this, alam ko may meeting sila ngayon, rirebyuhin nila iyong mga lugar nasa Alert Level 2 kung puwede na silang ibaba sa Alert Level 1 kagaya ng mungkahi noong Monday,” Herbosa said in an interview at the Laging Handa public briefing.

This, according to Herbosa, might be good news “as long as the country’s Covid-19 cases continue to decline.”

For the first half of March, the following areas are on Alert Level 2:

In the Cordillera Administrative Region, Benguet, Ifugao, and Mountain Province are in Region 1; Nueva Vizcaya is in Region 2; Nueva Ecija and Zambales are in Region 3; Batangas, Lucena City, Quezon, and Rizal are in Region 4-A; Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, and Palawan are in Region 4-B; and Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Masbat

Antique, Iloilo City, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental in Region 6; Bohol, Cebu Province, Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue City, and Negros Oriental in Region 7; Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Ormoc City, Southern Leyte, Tacloban City, and Western Samar in Region 8; and Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar, Ormoc City, Southern

In Mindanao, Region 9 includes Isabela City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, and Zamboanga Sibugay; Region 10 includes Bukidnon, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, and Misamis Oriental; Region 11 includes General Santos City, North Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat; and Region 12 includes Suriga

Despite the lifting of limitations in Metro Manila and other 38 areas, Herbosa said the country’s overall Covid-19 situation is “excellent” thus far.
