From January 3 to 15, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will give new support to formal and informal sector workers in Metro Manila who will be affected by the implementation of the Alert Level 3 categorization.

Covid-19 Adjustment Measures Program (CAMP) and Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced (TUPAD) workers will benefit from DOLE’s amelioration programs, according to DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III.

“We can only provide to them the so-called informal workers’ amelioration fund.” With the official workers, we’ll make use of some of our CAMP facilities. “All of our staff who will be temporarily displaced due to the new tight rules will be provided positions,” he declared on Monday in a virtual conference.

Beneficiaries of the CAMP program would get a one-time cash assistance of PHP5,000.

“The names must be submitted by the employers, who will also give their employees cash aid,” Bello added.

TUPAD is a 10-day emergency job for workers in the informal sector.

“These are people who work for themselves, such as tricycle drivers and sellers. They don’t have a formal job, so we offer them work for ten days and then pay them,” he explained.

Employers in the tourism and food industries, according to Bello, have already approached them about implementing Alert Level 3.

“A lot of people have requested help. The 30-percent capacity rule affects the restaurant industry, causing it to just break even. “We can understand if some of their personnel are temporarily relocated,” he said.

According to Department of Trade and Industry figures, the two-week protocol will affect 100,000 people, but Bello says they can only supply work to 30,000 to 40,000 of them.
