Iloilo City may be downgraded to Alert Level 0 in the near future.
CITY OF ILOILO โ Iloilo City is considering lowering its alert level to zero, but the Department of Health’s regional office in Western Visayas is still waiting for guidance from the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging and Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
Western Visayas is on Alert Level 1 due to the increase in cases, average day attack rate (ADAR), health care utilization rate (HCUR), and immunization status, according to DOH Senior Program Health Officer John Richard Lapascua in a virtual press conference on Monday.
“At the moment, our IATF resolutions cover Alert Levels 1 through 4,” he explained.
Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treas said in a press conference on Monday that he is preparing a letter to request the new classification, as their current Level 1 designation is only valid until Tuesday.
On March 11, the mayor persuaded the national IATF to place Iloilo City under Alert Level 1 because it had already met the criteria.
“Because cases are low, our HCUR is low, and our ADAR is low,” he continued, “We deserve to enjoy what they are experiencing in Metro Manila as well.”
Western Visayas has 2,960 current Covid-19 cases as of Sunday, with 426 of them in Iloilo City.
Treas stated that after students reach Alert Level 1, the wearing of a face mask will be optional, and he would urge the start of face-to-face training.
He stated, “We know that internet education is not as successful as face-to-face.”
