Since the epidemic, 654 BP2 recipients have returned to their provinces.

MANILA, Philippines — Since the Covid-19 pandemic swept the country in March 2020, the government’s “Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa” (BP2) initiative has helped 654 people return to their provinces.

As they returned to Masbate province on Tuesday, 37 beneficiaries, consisting of eight families and one individual, were the latest benefactors of the BP2 program.

The National Housing Authority (NHA), which serves as the BP2 program’s head secretariat, has facilitated the beneficiaries’ logistical needs and dispatch procedures at the BP2 Depot in Quezon City, including registration, orientation, and swab testing, in order to ensure safe travel back to their homes.

Albert Paolo Dayao, the deputy leader of the NHA’s BP2 program operations, urged as many families or individuals as possible to return to their home provinces, particularly informal settlers in metropolis towns.

“Kung meron naman silang uuwian sa kani-kanilang mga probinsya, may paglalagian po sila,” says the narrator (If they have homes in the respective provinces, they have a place to stay with). Please do so, because the fundamental goal of this program is to decongest Metro Manila while simultaneously providing equal opportunity for rural and urban dwellers,” Dayao stated.

“If you want to participate in the program, please go to www.balikprobinsya.ph and register,” he said.

BP2 beneficiaries, according to Dayao, can also get help from other government agencies or initiatives run by the President’s Office.

Transportation, long-term livelihood assistance, and cash aid, as well as skills training programs, are just a few of the options available.

The National Housing Authority (NHA) also has a housing program for people who qualify.

“If man na wala silang titirhan doon po sa pupuntahan nilang province, na hindi pa po nadidispose, pwede po nating i-offer yun sa kanila (If man na wala silang titirhan doon po sa pupuntahan nilang province, na hindi pa po nadidispos We can offer it to them if we (NHA) have existing housing units that haven’t been disposed of,” Dayao remarked.

He stated that the houses are not free, but that they can be obtained at a modest cost, making them affordable and decent shelters for Filipinos.

The Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa program was established by President Rodrigo Duterte’s Executive Order No. 114 on May 6, 2020, with the primary purpose of reducing overpopulation in Metro Manila’s urban area and encouraging informal settlers to return to their home provinces with a fresh start.
