LIPA CITY, BATANGAS, PHILIPPINES – The Department of Education (DepEd) has commended Batangas’ local government unit for its efforts to construct facilities that will advance learning among the province’s young residents.

The agency said in a statement Tuesday that Secretary Leonor Briones was present for the March 10 inauguration of numerous school buildings and facilities at the Basilio Fernando Air Base Civilian Education Center.

“I’d like to congratulate everyone. ‘Yong lahat ng nag-contribute nitong isang konsepto nitong napakaganda at napaka-useful sa edukasyon. This is an integrated approach. Isang campus, isang administrasyon, at isang lugar na saan lahat ng lebel ng edukasyon ay available. This is a holistic approach. One campus, a single location for all levels of education),” Briones stated during the inauguration.

She lauded the initiative of both the project’s proponents and the local community.

“Perhaps ang ating congressman, ang ating senator, ang ating airbase, at ang ating community will take the initiative. Many thanks for not appreciating the value and importance of education for our students (There is an initiative by our congressman, senator, airbase, and community. We appreciate your recognition of the value and importance of education for our students),” Briones added.

Fernando Airbase Elementary School now has two four-story buildings with 32 classrooms to accommodate approximately 1,280 students. Additionally, a school gymnasium and a multi-purpose facility with an automatic fire sprinkler system were accepted.

Meanwhile, Fernando Airbase Integrated National High School acquired four four-story structures with 80 classrooms, a school gym, and a multi-purpose facility.

On the other hand, the Philippine State College of Aeronautics (PHILSCA) received a school building that includes 21 classrooms, a gymnasium, and a multi-purpose building that can accommodate 840 students.

These projects are part of the Batangas LGU’s education assistance program, which aims to create a more conducive, safe, and comfortable learning environment for its constituents.

The education center was completed four years after the Philippine Air Force (PAF), the Department of Education (DepEd) – Lipa City Division, and PHILSCA signed an agreement to proceed with the development. The project is one of Representative Vilma Santos-and Recto’s Senator Ralph Recto’s initiatives in Batangas’ 6th District.

“Let us invest in more than our physical assets. However, ‘yong ating mga guro ay pinakamahalaga. However, our teachers are the most important. The challenge for you, mentors, is to inspire your students to be the best they can be. That is the key, that is the solution to education, to inspire your students,” Sen. Recto stated.

Briones also urged educators and other stakeholders to consider the future of education and to provide learners with appropriate learning materials based on their individual needs.

“We must act now because the future will not wait for us. Every day, something new occurs, and we must remain vigilant. This is a challenge for everyone,” she stated.
