MANILA, Philippines – Presidential aspirant Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. stated that he will “definitely” continue the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict’s anti-insurgency programs (NTF-ELCAC).

“How can you be opposed to a program that promotes peace?” Ang nagrebelde ay natutulungan ng gobyerno. As a result, nagrebelde yan kasi wala nararamdaman na tulong, na serbisyo galing sa gobyerno. Walang trabaho, walang future kumbaga (The government is assisting those rebels. Their rebellion is motivated by a lack of assistance and services from the government. No job, no future like that),” Marcos stated during an interview on PTV-4’s March 19 episode of “The Chatroom.”

The former senator viewed the NTF-ELCAC as an expanded civil-military action program infused with a whole-of-nation approach, in which all national government agencies collaborate to develop and restore peace to rebel-infiltrated communities.

Marcos stated that the NTF-anti-insurgency ELCAC’s program provided hope and opportunities for people in remote areas through the provision of decent housing units, livelihood programs, and investments to start over.

“Dahil dyan, talagang andaming nagbalik-loob. Accordingly, ‘pag kausap ko lalo na yung AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), mga pulis—effective talaga (There are a large number of rebel returnees as a result. For me, when I speak with AFP or police officers, it’s extremely effective),” Marcos explained.

“I believe it is without a doubt. That is another program that must be maintained,” he continued.

President Rodrigo Duterte expressed hope in his prerecorded Talk to the People address aired Tuesday that the NTF-ELCAC will continue to receive support from the next administration, noting that anti-insurgency initiatives have contributed to the country’s sustainable peace and order.

“I sincerely hope that the next administration will maintain this ELCAC,” Duterte stated.
