MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City administration hailed the hard work and dedication of its medical front-liners for the success of its coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic response operations on Wednesday.

“Our health staff have always been the ones to put their health on the line in order to save lives. We appreciate their efforts and sacrifices “In a statement, Mayor Lino Cayetano remarked.

During the “Bayanihan, Bakunahan 4” huge vaccination drive held from March 10 to 18, the city was among the local government units (LGUs) recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for having a high Covid-19 immunization rate.

Dr. Norena Osano, the chief of the Taguig City Health Office, was honored by the DILG, along with other national government entities that make up the National Task Force against Covid-19, at an event held at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City on Tuesday.

Top-performing LGUs were recognized at the event for pushing a whole-of-government approach to ensuring a balance between public health and the economy, particularly through the implementation of the Safety Seal Certification Program, VaxCert PH, and the National Vaccination Program.

As of March 21, a total of 832,839 people have been fully vaccinated in the city, accounting for 94 percent of the city’s estimated population for 2022, according to the Department of Health.

Despite a decrease in Covid-19 cases in the city, Taguig vows to maintain its active disease surveillance and vaccine efforts.
