MANILA, Philippines — The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has been granted permission by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to continue some of its coronavirus response operations even during the campaign period for the May 9 elections.

“The en banc granted the Petition for Exception of the Office of the Vice President of specific projects and programs during the 45-day term of the campaign in an executive session today,” Commissioner George Erwin Garcia said in a statement to media on Wednesday.

Vice President Leni Robredo had already requested that the poll body allow her office to continue pandemic-related projects even during the election campaign.

The Bayanihan E-konsulta, Vaccine Express, Swab Cab, and the medical aid program are just a few of these services.

OVP spokesman Barry Gutierrez praised the poll body’s decision in a statement.

“We are still awaiting a complete copy of the resolution to ensure that we have clear advice on how to implement the exemption’s initiatives. Once we have all of the pertinent information, we will issue an official public advisory “Gutierrez continued.

Resolution 10747 of the Comelec establishes the rules and regulations for the limitation on the distribution of public funds in connection with the May 9 elections, which will be in effect from March 25 to May 8.

Candidates must obtain a certificate of exception for social welfare projects and services under Section 13 of the resolution.

Robredo paused the OVP’s efforts to help persons who were seriously affected by the epidemic on February 7 while waiting for Comelec’s judgment on her petition.
