Getting more Covid-19 vax dosages is ‘hazardous,’ according to DOH.
MANILA, Philippines — A public health expert warned on Tuesday that getting more than the recommended number of Covid-19 vaccination doses is “hazardous.”
The vaccines are just in Phase 3 clinical trials, according to Department of Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, and their long-term consequences will be studied.
“However, people must exercise extreme caution when using these vaccines for purposes other than those for which they were designed. We simply want to follow the protocol and guidelines that have been established “she stated
The Department of Health is aware, according to Vergeire, that some persons have received four to six doses of the Covid-19 vaccination.
She stated that the DOH is constantly monitoring those who received too many vaccines, but that no complaints of adverse effects have been received as a result of their administration.
The DOH is encouraging fully vaccinated individuals who are 18 years old and older to get their booster vaccinations to add another layer of protection against the severe type of Covid-19 and mortality from it.
Only 11.8 million people out of 45 million who are fully vaccinated have gotten the additional doses recommended by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Infectious Diseases.
The low number, according to Vergeire, can be attributable to many people’s conviction that the initial round of Covid-19 immunizations will protect them from illness.
“We must keep in mind that immunity, both natural and vaccine-induced, diminishes over time. It provides further protection against serious hospitalization and death “she continued.
According to DOH data as of March 27, 65,640,834 people have had their full vaccinations, while 11,825,403 people have received their booster injections.
Covid-19 vaccination has reached 72.93 percent of the country’s target population.
In the meantime, 75.56 percent of the elderly have been immunized against the disease.
