TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – After a two-year pause due to the pandemic, the congressional delegate for Samar province welcomed the reopening of Cebu Pacific Airlines’ Cebu-Calbayog flights on Tuesday.

The resumption of aircraft to Calbayog City, according to Samar First District Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento, will help the local tourism business.

“Welcome back, Cebu Pacific Air, to the Great City of Waterfalls and Samar’s Gateway!” I’d like to wish Cebu Pacific Air a happy 26th anniversary. I appreciate them sticking to their promise to make everyone fly. “I am delighted that they have heard and approved my appeal to reinstate the Cebu – Calbayog route for twice-weekly flights (Tuesdays and Saturdays) beginning March 29th, 2022,” Sarmiento stated in a social media post.

The congressman believes that the return of flights will benefit the people of Samar and that the local economy will be able to rebound stronger and better after a “tough” two years.

“We hope that this convenient link to the royal city of the south kickstarts greater progress and much-needed tourism in our beautiful Samar,” Sarmiento remarked.

Cebu Pacific said on March 7 that it is expanding its domestic network by adding more flights to major hubs, following the ongoing ease of travel for both Filipinos and foreign tourists.

On top of its 17 foreign destinations, the airline has the Philippines’ largest internal network, with 34 destinations.
