ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — Since the commencement of the pandemic in March 2020, the Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9) has seen a 95.6 percent recovery rate from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), with 57,443 people recovering.

According to data issued on Tuesday by the Department of Health in Region 9 (DOH–9), there have been 60,045 confirmed Covid-19 infections, 123 active cases, and 2,480 deaths.

Dr. Jimuel Cristobal, DOH-9 medical officer, remarked about the low active cases of Covid-19 in the region, “These are indeed significantly less than the numbers that we have experienced previously.”

According to Cristobal, 97 percent of active instances are asymptomatic and low to intermediate in severity, while the remaining 3% are severe to critical.

Isabela City had zero active cases, according to the report, while Zamboanga City had 91 active cases, Zamboanga Sibugay had 12, Zamboanga del Norte had 10, and Zamboanga del Sur had 10.

Zamboanga City had the highest number of recoveries, with 27,064.

Zamboanga del Sur came in second with 13,287 recoveries, followed by Zamboanga del Norte with 10,950, Zamboanga Sibugay with 4,604 and Isabela City with 1,538.

Apart from having high recoveries, Zamboanga City has the greatest number of cumulative cases with 28,254.

In the rest of the region, the number of Covid-19 cumulative cases was 13,797 in Zamboanga del Sur, 11,556 in Zamboanga del Norte, 4,840 in Zamboanga Sibugay, and 1,599 in Isabela City.

According to the DOH-9 data, Zamboanga City has the highest Covid-related deaths with 1,099, followed by Zamboanga del Norte with 596, Zamboanga del Sur with 500, Zamboanga Sibugay with 224, and Isabela City with 61.

Despite the drop in active cases, Cristobal stressed that the public should continue to follow minimal health measures.
