BBM-Sara UniTeam thanks OFWs for their service.

MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) joined the miting de avance of presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and vice-presidential candidate Sara Duterte through zoom and live at the Hilton Hotel here on Friday, coming from different time zones around the world.

If elected in next month’s elections, the BBM-Sara team underlined their promise to build a government that is truly responsive to the interests of the people, including OFWs.

Over ten million Filipinos live in other countries. Approximately 1.7 million OFWs are registered voters who will participate in absentee voting beginning April 10.

Duterte praised Filipino migrant workers for their hard work and sacrifices in her speech.

Halos walang day-off, walang pahinga.

OFWs are the “most unselfish people among all Filipino workers,” according to Duterte, who emphasized their sacrifices for the sake of their own families.

She also emphasized the contribution of OFWs to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) through remittances, which help to increase the Philippine peso’s value and raise the standard of life for Filipino families by increasing their purchasing power.

Uniteam’s dedication

OFWs should be recognized by the government, according to Duterte, and the entire UniTeam ticket will support their hopes and dreams for themselves and their families.

She emphasized the importance of her father, President Rodrigo Duterte’s, legacy policies, which include a long list of programs for OFWs and their families.

President Duterte signed Republic Act 11641, popularly known as “An Act Creating the Department of Migrant Workers,” in December of last year, with the goal of improving cooperation among OFW-related groups.

“We look forward to the Department of Migrant Workers becoming functioning,” Duterte stated.

She also emphasized the necessity of livelihood, education, unity, and peace – the UniTeam’s campaign battle cry.

Duterte expressed gratitude to all OFWs and pledged to defend and safeguard their safety by strengthening consulates and embassies to ensure that migrant workers receive the proper benefits from their employers and are protected from abuse.

Uniteam senatorial bets Mark Villar, Sherwin Gatchalian, Robin Padilla, Jinggoy Estrada, Rodante Marcoleta, Gringo Honasan, Larry Gadon, Harry Roque, Migz Zubiri, Herbert Bautista, and Gilbert Teodoro also attended the miting de avance.
