MANILA, Philippines — After allegations of scarcity, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said that it will reopen over a hundred public utility vehicle (PUV) routes that operate Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.

The LTFRB announced on Monday that six more routes with 158 contemporary public utility jeepneys (PUJs), 76 routes with 4,135 traditional PUJs, one route with 19 modern UV Express units, and two routes with 2,783 classic UV Express will be added.

Following complaints of long lineups of passengers from LITEX to Sandiganbayan and other portions of Commonwealth Avenue on Monday morning, the LTFRB apologized to commuters.

“Agarang nagpatawag ng emergency meeting si LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III atapos makatanggap ng mga ulat tungkol sa nangyari kanina,” declared the LTFRB.

Only about half of the 510 public utility buses allowed to run route 5 (Angat to Quezon Avenue via Commonwealth) were operational, according to the initial investigation.

“Patuloy pang iniimbestigahan ng ahensya ang nasabing insidente upang mapanagot ang operator sa nasabing ruta, ang United Mega Manila Bus Consortium, Inc.-NAT Transport,” said the LTFRB.
