Preparations for the Covid-19 vaccine donation to Myanmar are ongoing.

MANILA, Philippines — Malacanang stated on Tuesday that the government is preparing to donate coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) vaccines to Myanmar.

In a press statement, Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Communications Secretary Martin Andanar provided an update on the status of Covid-19 vaccinations that will be sent to Myanmar.

Andanar stated that the request for adequate documentation of the Philippines’ proposed donation of coronavirus vaccinations had already been received by Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19 lead implementer and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. signed the letter, according to Andanar.

“A letter signed by Secretary Francisco Duque III and Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr. was forwarded to Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., who then requests approval from the Office of the President as this is the disposition of government property, which is government-procured vaccinations,” he explained.

Around 27 million doses of Covid-19 vaccinations are expected to expire in July, according to Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion.

Most of the dosages that would expire in July 2022 “were either given by other nations or acquired by local governments and the business sector,” according to a joint statement from the DOH and the NTF Against Covid-19.

They also stated that only 2% of government-purchased vaccines are considered “wastage,” emphasizing that this is “much less than the World Health Organization’s 10% indicative wastage rate utilized in the planning and forecasting of vaccine supply needs.”

“No one could ensure that manufacturers could supply at the scale and timetable our workers required,” they claimed. “As a result, choices were made to get as many doses as possible from wherever they could be sourced.” “At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, no single country could have foreseen and balanced the worldwide supply and demand of vaccines with acceptable accuracy.”

Nonetheless, they pledged that the government will continue to scale up its vaccination campaign to make Covid-19 vaccines “more accessible and available” to the general public.

In March, Duque announced the government’s intention to transfer Covid-19 vaccinations that are about to expire to countries like Myanmar, Cambodia, and other African countries in order to supplement their vaccine supplies.

The DFA and DOH are working to determine which nations will get the goods, as well as the quantity and sorts of brands that will be provided.

The Philippines had already vaccinated 73.47 percent of its target population against the coronavirus as of Monday.

A total of 66,125,962 people have been fully vaccinated, with another 12,154,567 receiving booster or extra Covid-19 vaccine doses.

From March 28 to April 3, the country had a total of 2,679 coronavirus infections, with an average of 382 cases per day.

In a separate press conference, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire stated that the gift of Covid-19 vaccines to countries in need would continue because the government has an excess supply.

According to Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Joey Concepcion, about 27 million Covid-19 vaccination doses may expire in July due to the fact that the majority of eligible residents do have not received their booster shots.

“‘Yung bilang saka kung anong bakuna ibibigay naten pina-finalize pa natin (Because we’re finishing our inventories),” Vergeire remarked.

She went on to say that the donation’s details would be released in the following days as the government begins talks with the recipient countries.
