MANILA, Philippines — According to a health official, the number of dengue, measles, and diphtheria cases in the country decreased from January to March this year compared to the same period the previous year.

In a press conference, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that 10,915 cases of dengue fever were reported from January to March 19, down from 20,213 instances in the same period the previous year.

In terms of measles, there have been 45 cases reported in the first three months of this year, which is down from 83 instances last year.

The introduction of minimum public health standards, lower interactions among individuals due to coronavirus disease 2019 limitations, and non-reporting of cases to rural health units, according to Vergeire, may have contributed to the decline in reported measles cases.

“Patuloy natin pataasin ang ating routine immunization rates, especially among our children, para maprotektahan tayo sa mga sakit na nabanggit,” she continued.

From April to June, the Department of Health will provide routine immunizations on the last Thursday and Friday of each month.

In 2021, it wants to vaccinate at least 80% of the 1.1 million infants who have yet to receive their routine vaccine.
