If 2022 bets linked with CPP win, it will be “dangerous,” according to Duterte.
MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Roa Duterte warned on Tuesday that it would be “hazardous” if candidates aligned with the communist movement were elected to public office in the May 9, 2022 elections.
“It’s hazardous if they win the elections,” Duterte remarked during a combined meeting of the National Task Force (NTF) and the Regional Task Force (RTF) to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) in Butuan City.
Duterte made the allegation while reiterating that there are party-list groups conspiring with the Philippines’ Communist Party (CPP).
He explained, “Itong party-lists, unahin ko lang (These party-lists) cleared the door for communists.” “Komunista ‘yan – entered through the backdoor, through the government portals (They are communists who entered through the backdoor, through the government portals), then won a few seats there.” And “pag nandiyan na sila, walang ginawa ‘yan” (when in office, they do nothing but criticize the administration).
Duterte previously indicated that the communist movement had infiltrated a number of political parties.
Duterte has already warned Filipino voters about the Kabataan, Anakpawis, Bayan Muna, Alliance of Concerned Teachers, and Gabriela party-list parties, often known as the “KABAG,” which serve as legal fronts for the CPP.
Duterte’s claim against the KABAG party-lists was based on an intelligence report, according to Malacaang.
Duterte stated the communist outfit had “no real motive” to create enmity against the government during the joint NTF-RTF ELCAC meeting.
He reiterated that he will not support a presidential contender unless he has a “compelling cause” to do so.
Duterte suggested that a rumored alliance between 2022 election candidates and the CPP would push him to back a presidential candidate.
“‘Yung iba, nakapasok na rin ang mga komunista,” says the speaker (The communists have already infiltrated [the government]). I will not endorse any presidential contender, as I previously stated. But if there is a strong reason to campaign or promote a certain politician, he remarked, “ayaw ko yung mga komunista maghalo sa kanila ngayon (because I don’t want communists to infiltrate the government).”
Duterte also promised to spend his last days in office to address the country’s insurgency issues in order to bring peace and development.
“The final three months of my presidency are critical as we continue to solve the country’s problems, which have long harmed the lives of our inhabitants. As my tenure draws to an end, it’s vital that I fulfill my obligations to achieve peace, progress, and prosperity,” he remarked.
Duterte praised the NTF and RTF ELCAC for their unwavering commitment to a holistic, whole-of-nation approach to combating communist insurrection.
“Access to reform and welfare programs is critical – it should be our critical – in helping to end the decades-long insurgent problem that has stifled rural development,” he said.
Duterte again reiterated his plea for local governments to work together to make the Philippines a “stronger and more peaceful nation.”
The United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines have designated the CPP-New People’s Army (NPA) as a terrorist organization.
The CPP-political NPA’s wing, the National Democratic Front, was officially formally labeled as a terrorist group by the Anti-Terrorism Council on June 23, 2021, identifying it as “an integral and inseparable part” of the CPP-NPA, which was founded in April 1973.
