More US companies are looking to expand in the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), at least two US corporations have shown an interest in expanding in the Philippines.

The DTI said its officials, led by Secretary Ramon Lopez, Presidential Adviser on Flagship Programs and Projects Vivencio Dizon, and FedEx vice president Ralph Carter, met early this week in Washington, D.C. to discuss the logistics firm’s expansion plans in the Philippines, according to a statement released Thursday.

Carter stated that the corporation intends to start its development plan in Clark, Pampanga as soon as possible, doubling its present capacity.

According to the DTI, “all inbound items are sorted and reloaded back to designated planes traveling to various destinations and will not pass through the Customs area,” the expansion plan intends to make the facility a transshipment point for packages.

FedEx announced its return to the Philippines in 2020 with the construction of a $30 million gateway facility in Central Luzon.

According to Carter, the company also sought clear and flexible transshipment rules, requesting assistance from the Board of Investments (BOI) in reaching an agreement with the Bureau of Customs (BOC), while the BOI coordinates with the BOC on the drafting of a Customs Memorandum Order (CMO) on transshipment rules.

The CMO on transshipment standards, according to the DTI, is an “essential prerequisite to concluding FedEx’s investment plan.”

Meanwhile, the DTI secretary reviewed ENDECGROUP, Inc.’s and Black and Veatch’s (B&V) plans to build an integrated data center and renewable energy facility in the Philippines through its subsidiary Diode Ventures, LLC (USA).

The companies are currently finalizing their investment amounts for the data center and renewable energy project, Lopez said in a Viber message to reporters.

“Through Diode Ventures, the alliance between ENDEC and Black & Veatch is planning to invest in two hyper scale data centers and solar energy projects.”

According to BOI estimates, a 150 to 180-megawatt hyper scale coupled with a renewable energy power source would cost over USD1.5 billion,” he added, adding that this is the average size of the companies’ first phase of projects.

The government’s economic team is currently in the United States in order to boost economic ties and seek more US investment.
