Northern Mindanao revival is expected to be aided by ‘mega’ employment and a livelihood fair.

CITY OF CAGAYAN DE ORO – On Thursday, April 28, 2022, the “mega” Job Fair and Livelihood Showcase marks the beginning of Northern Mindanao’s economic recovery, more than two years after the pandemic’s crushing lockdowns.

According to Albert Gutib, the director of the Department of Labor and Employment in Region 10 (DOLE-10), it will be the first time the agency has held a physical job fair since the coronavirus disease-19 (Covid-19) health crisis broke out in early 2020.

“Thousands of job seekers are expected to attend this event. This is part of the government’s National Employment Recovery Strategy “In an interview on Monday, Gutib remarked.

According to Gutib, 97 local companies wanting to fill at least 2,445 jobs have already committed to attend the job fair, which will be held at the University of Science and Technology of the Southern Philippines-CDO Campus.

At least four international firms with 463 job openings have also confirmed their involvement.

According to Gutib, the agency has cooperated with many agencies and institutions, including the Department of Trade and Industry Region 10, to showcase local products and introduce livelihood and business opportunities.

Despite the fact that the event will take place in person, Gutib stated that existing health protocols will remain in place.

Meanwhile, Kathleen Kate Sorilla, manager of the Public Employment Services Office, noted that the majority of the job fair’s participating firms are based in the city or have activities there.

Job openings are available, according to Sorilla, even for individuals without a college diploma.

Mylah Faye Aurora Cario, Director of the National Economic and Development Authority–Region 10, reported last week that approximately 2,000 individuals had lost their jobs as of February 2022.

As a result of the epidemic, at least 155 businesses and 152 micro and small businesses have permanently shuttered their doors.

However, Cario claims that Covid-19 has aided the emergence of new industries like as online food delivery, the bicycle industry, digital financial transactions, ICT support services, and logistics digitalization.
