MANILA, Philippines — At the Baclaran Church on Thursday, Vice Presidential candidate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan welcomed the Sumilao farmers and reaffirmed his commitment to support the farmers and the agriculture sector.

He headed to approach the church gate with his family and farmers from San Simon, Pampanga, Pangilinan, and the Sumilao farmers.

Sumilao farmers marched from Bukidnon to Manila in support of Robredo-presidential Pangilinan’s campaign.

He stated that it is past time to recognize the farmers for their sacrifices and for ensuring that Filipinos have food on their tables.

“Buong puso at tapang na ipaglalaban ko ang inyong hanay, pakikinggan ang inyong daing (I will boldly and wholeheartedly fight for you, and I will listen to your concerns),” Pangilinan added.

Sumilao farmers’ representative Noland Seas said they are among those who conduct house-to-house campaigns for Pangilinan and his presidential running mate Vice President Leni Robredo.

“Hindi po natin hahayaan na ang sambayanang Pilipino ay nakakalimot na tayo ay demokrasya at malayang bayan,” he remarked.

They, too, are among the millions of farmers suffering from hunger and poverty, according to Seas.

In February, Robredo struck a contract with the Sumilao farmers. Pangilinan confirmed his adherence to the covenant on Thursday.
