TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines – Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, the Aksyon Demokratiko’s standard-bearer, visited Leyte on Thursday to drum up additional support in the last days of the three-month statewide campaign.

Moreno told reporters Thursday night that he went to Leyte after the two scheduled rallies earlier in the day were canceled due to rain.

After wooing voters in Cebu, the presidential candidate talked to supporters in Sogod, Southern Leyte, before arriving in this city for a massive gathering at the RTR Plaza.

“Disasters forced us to cancel our planned visit here twice. “I don’t want to take advantage of their vulnerability during the typhoon’s peak,” Moreno added.

Because his mother is from Northern Samar, he said Waray-speaking people are close to his heart.

“A large and silent majority exists here.” People come out of their homes to welcome us. It’s a sign of support,” Moreno remarked in response to questioning from the media about his campaigning in the province, which was once the domain of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Despite the results of the voters’ preference survey, the Manila mayor said the past three months had been extremely exhausting.

“Because this is an archipelago, we attempted to reach as many regions and people as possible.” We’ve been paying visits to people in their neighborhoods. He told reporters, “I want to learn and I want to know the real situation, especially in the provinces.”

Moreno announced on Saturday that he would complete his statewide campaign with a large demonstration in Moriones, Tondo, to honor his modest roots.
