At the Guimaras all-you-can-eat festival, 10 tons of mangoes are on the line.

The 2022 Manggahan Festival of the province of Guimaras, which began on May 14 at the provincial capitol grounds in the municipality of Jordan and will end on May 22 to commemorate the island’s 30th year as a full province, will feature 30 tons of sweet mangoes.

In an interview on Sunday, Liberty Ferrer, officer-in-charge of the provincial tourism agency, stated, “We are returning this Manggahan festival to promote the recovery of our micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).”

This year’s festival, according to Ferrer, is highlighted by the “mango-eat-all-you-can” promotion, in which guests may consume an infinite number of kilos of sweet fruit in 30 minutes for PHP100.

The Provincial Office of Agricultural Services (POAS) has set aside 10 tons for the all-you-can-eat feast, with the remaining 30 tons going toward projections for the 10 stalls at the agri-trade fair, market linkages, and actual sales.

The feast site can handle six batches of 100 people for 30 minutes each.

“On average, they can consume two to 2.5 kilograms of food.” In a media briefing on Saturday, Guimaras assistant provincial agriculturist Alvin Nava said, “So that’s 1.2 to 1.5 tons of mangoes in a day.”

He claimed that in prior years, they had a Mindanao visitor who ate 11 to 12 kg in 30 minutes. The greatest weight was six to seven kg for local tourists in Western Visayas.

The all-you-can-eat buffet, however, will only be held on weekends, specifically May 14-15, 18, 20, and 22, because the situation is still unknown due to the pandemic.

Other events for the festival, according to Ferrer, include individual sports such as the bike fun ride and motocross 4×4 challenge, a job fair, and nocturnal entertainment.

The online activities include a “Panakayon” audio-visual presentation highlighting the province’s heritage, culture, and tourism, as well as a mini-documentary highlighting best practices in the environment, agriculture, and tourism sectors.

“The Guimaras pearl anniversary celebration is the highlight on May 22.” “We’ll have more physical events on May 20-22,” she stated.

Ferrer stated that the Office of the Governor is expected to issue a new executive order at any point to “somewhat relax” the protocol during the event.

Visitors to the province, which is now on Alert Level 1, must fill out a health declaration card before purchasing a ticket at the Parola wharf in Iloilo City, and submit it upon arrival at the Jordan Wharf in Guimaras.

Guests must submit a health declaration form by rapid response (QR) code and have their body temperature tested at the entry when they arrive at the trade show location.

“We are still thinking about going through the procedure, but it will be lighter in the remaining days of the event.” “The response of our local tourists from the Western Visayas has been overwhelming,” Ferrer remarked.
