Passengers and staff are unharmed as the PAL jet makes a ‘precautionary landing.’
MANILA – After a “technical incident,” all 82 passengers and four crew members on a Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight from Manila to Dumaguete are safe, according to spokesman Cielo Villaluna on Monday afternoon.
After takeoff at 1:54 p.m., Villaluna said a “technical failure” caused smoke to vent into the cabin, leading the crew to return to Manila for a precautionary landing. At 2:10 p.m., the plane landed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
A De Havilland Dash 8 turboprop operated by PAL Express with the registration number RP-C5906 was used on flight PR2543 destined for Dumaguete.
The carrier’s operations staff arranged for a replacement flight to Dumaguete, which took off at 4:16 p.m., Villaluna said, carrying 63 of the 82 passengers who elected to continue their journey.
She stated, “We affirm that safety is our top priority and that PAL is actively cooperating with the concerned airport and aviation authorities.”
