MANILA – On Tuesday, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) completed canvassing 172 of the 173 local and international Certificates of Canvass (COCs).

According to National Tally Sheet Report No. 7, a total of 55,549,791 Filipinos (or 83.11 percent) participated in the just-concluded May 9 polls, out of a total of 66,839,976 registered.

Only one COC in Lanao del Sur has yet to be canvassed, as 14 barangays in the province will hold special elections.

The poll body, on the other hand, has failed to schedule the special polls in Shanghai, China, where 1,991 Filipinos have yet to vote due to the host country’s lockdown imposed due to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) instances.

The results of the 12 senators will no longer be influenced by votes from Lanao del Sur and Shanghai, according to the polling organization.

As a result, the declaration of the 12 winning senators was accepted by Comelec, acting as the National Board of Canvassers (NBOC).

Actor Robin Padilla is in first place with 26,612,434 votes.

Loren Legarda, an antique representative, is in second position with 24,264,979 votes, followed by Raffy Tulfo, a broadcaster, with 23,396,954.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian is in fourth place with 20,535,261 votes, followed by former Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero (20,271,458), former DPWH Secretary Mark Villar (19,475,592), former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano (19,295,314), and Senator Miguel Zubiri (18,734,336 votes).

Senator Joel Villanueva received 18,486,034 votes, while former senator JV Ejercito received 15,841,858 votes, Senator Risa Hontiveros received 15,420,807 votes, and former senator Jinggoy Estrada received 15,108,220 votes.

Senators are allowed to invite up to five guests to the proclamation, which will be held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Tent in Pasay City at 4 p.m. on May 18.
