LinkedIn has become more relaxed. Is it OK to disclose personal posts?

LinkedIn is a business-focused, network-driven platform that connects companies and employees with other professionals. However, it’s evident that LinkedIn has grown more personal than simply professional, with top posts ranging from videos of dads playing with their kids to managers sharing sobbing images and addressing their mental health difficulties.

Why it matters: According to Kinsta, 87 percent of recruiters use LinkedIn on a regular basis, and LinkedIn data show that six people are employed every minute. With over 55 million companies listed on the site that could potentially read your profile, it’s critical to understand what kind of information will be most beneficial to you and your profession.

What’s being said: Author John Nemo authored a LinkedIn essay about his experience sharing personal facts about his life on his account, encouraging people to humanize their posts and not be afraid to share personal tales.

“No one wants to conduct business with someone they don’t know. Rather, we prefer to do business with people we know, like, and trust,” Nemo wrote.
Natalie Rose, a LinkedIn member, posted a video of herself crying from anxiousness in February. The post earned over 10,000 likes and numerous supportive comments.
“Thank you for your candor and sharing this with us,” Miranda Head, LinkedIn Creator Manager, responded to her message with words of support. Without a question, you’re speaking to a lot of individuals who are going through the same thing.”
On the contrary, some users consider that personal posts are a means of attempting to gain attention.

One user answered a Quora question by suggesting that personal posts are a “vanity metric” (false) motivation, as if it boosts your professional possibilities or renown,” in response to the question “Why are people publishing random, non-work related items on LinkedIn?”

Whether or not you want to publish details about your personal life on LinkedIn is ultimately up to you. Consider how your social media posts affect your personal brand, both favorably and adversely.
