In China, Omni-media, platform-based communication is becoming more popular.
According to a survey released Monday by the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA), Omni-media and platform-based communication became a major trend in China’s news media business in 2020 and 2021.
The analysis, titled “Development of China’s News Media,” is the sixth of its kind from ACJA since 2014. It examines the country’s news media sector’s new developments in an era of profound convergence.
In the media sector, new media has become a significant development factor.
According to the survey, the number of online news users reached 771 million in December 2021, an increase of 28.35 million from December 2020 and accounting for 74.7 percent of China’s total Internet users.
Traditional media, such as radio, television, and newspapers, have grown at a slower pace in recent years, with a continuous focus on deep convergence and digital transformation, according to the research.
Emerging technologies including media platforms, data transmission, high-definition video technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and 5G, according to the research, have fueled media reform and innovation.
The research stated, “In this context, China’s media workforce is becoming younger, better educated, and more capable.”
According to statistics, China’s news industry employs around 1 million people.
The ACJA’s efforts to protect journalists’ rights have increased in the last two years, according to the study.
According to the ACJA, the report, which was originally written in Chinese, will be translated into English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic.
