DAVAO CITY, Philippines – According to a police spokesman, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is now pursuing 7,732 fined face mask ordinance violators who have failed to pay their fines.

DCPO spokesperson Maj. Ma. Teresita Gaspan said in an interview that the list of violators is currently in its second week of “backtracking.”

They’re working harder with barangay units to track down and locate violators of the face mask rule so they may be informed about the administrative penalty, according to Gaspan.

“Those who received citations, please pay your dues as soon as possible,” she urged.

From January 1 to May 14, 2022, around 10,941 people were arrested for breaching the city’s face mask ban, according to Gaspan.

However, she highlighted that just 3,209 people paid the PHP500 punishment, indicating that the majority of the violators did not pay the fine and may face prosecution soon.

“We caught a lot of violators, and now we’re having trouble finding individuals who got citations but didn’t pay the fine,” Gaspan said.

Violators are given three days to pay at the nearest district treasurer’s office, according to Gaspan.

“However, because the majority of them did not pay, they will be charged.” “They might be astonished to learn that this violation will appear on their records when they seek for police or FBI clearance,” she said.
