RITM is being considered the primary isolation facility for monkeypox cases.

MANILA, Philippines โ€” According to the Department of Health (DOH), the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) would be the primary isolation facility for the suspect, probable, and confirmed monkeypox cases.

The DOH’s Field Implementation and Coordination Team (FICT) and the One Hospital Command Center (OHCC) are working on the particular identification of isolation facilities with the focus of ensuring compliance with requirements, according to a Viber message sent to the media.

“According to DOH Department Memorandum No. 2022-0220 Interim Technical Guidelines for the Implementation of Monkeypox Surveillance Screening, Management, and Infection Control, the RITM is hereby designated as the main isolation facility for the suspect, probable, and confirmed monkeypox cases during the activation of Doors 1 and 2 of DOH’s 4-Door Alert System,” the department stated.

The health department stated on Wednesday that it would implement a four-door plan to prevent and manage new infectious diseases, which is part of the National Emergency Operational Response Plan.

Regional isolation facilities and hospitals serving other international points of entry will be designated by the FICT and the OHCC.

When Doors 3 and 4 are triggered, all government hospitals must prepare an area for isolation and treatment.

In the warning, the DOH stated, “Cases shall be immediately isolated in a private room, ideally with negative air pressure, until signs and symptoms have been treated.”

Earlier this week, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III stated that the government is closely monitoring worldwide events on monkeypox as it ramps up border screening in the country.

Monkeypox is not fatal, according to specialists, and its spread is easier to halt than Covid-19.

Monkeypox can be prevented with smallpox vaccines and treatments that have been demonstrated to work.

Fever, general body pains, malaise, and muscle discomfort are the earliest signs of monkeypox, which are comparable to influenza.
