LEGAZPI CITY, PHILIPPINES – President Rodrigo Duterte has declared June 24 a special non-working holiday in the province of Masbate, just in time for the Bagat Dagat Festival.

In Proclamation 1388, Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea stated, “It is fitting and customary that the people of the province of Masbate be given full opportunity to commemorate and participate in the occasion with suitable rituals.”

The proclamation did, however, encourage the public to follow the national government’s public health measures to avoid the spread of coronavirus sickness (Covid-19).

Masbate information officer Nonielon Bagalihog Jr. stated in an interview that the provincial chief executive requested the declaration to give the people of Masbate time to celebrate the holiday.

“Bagat-Dagat, which means “to meet and celebrate,” is a celebration that has been held for ten years. Our Governor Antonio Kho is the one who came up with the idea for this celebration.’ “he stated

The Masbate Provincial Tourism, Culture, and Arts Office have released details on the events scheduled for June 23-24 at the Lagoon in Matayum, Cataingan town.

A “Thanksgiving mass, river procession, and fluvial boat decoration contest, beach volleyball tournament, Dragon Boat competition, Henna tattoo contest, motorboat race, Sibidan race, line fishing contest, kite flying contest, and fire dancing contest” are among the festivities, according to the post.

There will also be a mural painting competition, a vehicle show, and a fireworks display, among other things.
