Global Media Congress virtual workshop hosted by UNA and WAM
In collaboration with Emirate News Agency (WAM) and the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center, the Union of OIC News Agencies (UNA) organized a virtual workshop on Tuesday for the benefit of its member news organizations to present the Global Media Congress (ADNEC).
In the member and “observer” states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), participants from more than 40 news agencies attended the program.
The workshop highlighted the anticipated benefits of the international event, which will be held in the capital of the UAE, Abu Dhabi, in November under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of the Presidential Court and Deputy Prime Minister, and with the participation of the elite of the media industry on a global scale.
The Global Media Congress will bring together a global elite of media industry professionals in the fields of journalism, radio, TV, multimedia, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, as well as innovation in social media content, according to Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, in a speech that was given by Ali Yousef Al Saad, WAM Acting Deputy Director-General.
Al Rayssi stressed that the congress’s dialogue sessions and interactive discussions would help identify opportunities and challenges for media institutions and companies, find practical solutions and innovations, and outline future features that serve in developing the various facets of the media industry. This was in reference to the expected outcomes of the congress.
Additionally, he continued, “Congress will play a crucial role in enabling innovative work and the process of reinventing commercial models with regard to applying AI technology and journalistic algorithms in the production of diversified media content.”
Al Rayssi clarified that regional media enterprises will benefit from attending the congress because it will give them the chance to develop a digital business model and use technology and applications in collaboration with significant regional businesses.
He said that through reaching strategic alliances and relationships with international media organizations, the congress will also be advantageous to multinational media organizations.
“The Global Media Congress comes in light of the rapid advancements in the global media landscape, whether in terms of production technologies or in terms of consumption of media and informational content,” said Mohammed Abd Rabbo Al Yami, acting director-general of UNA, in his opening remarks.
Al Yami emphasized in his inaugural statement that news organizations must keep up with these advancements in order to maintain their status as trustworthy news sources and to increase their visibility on the global news arena.
He said that the Global Media Congress offers member news organizations a once-in-a-lifetime chance to learn about global best practices in the media and communication fields and to investigate cutting-edge innovations in both content creation and moderation as well as the development of media platforms.
“We hope that this workshop evolves into a tool for connecting member news agencies with the Global Media Congress organizers and bringing them closer to benefit from the congress, contribute to its agenda, and participate effectively in its workshops and exhibitions in a way that benefits member news agencies and increases their awareness of the most recent practices and methods in the sphere of media,” he continued.
In order to introduce the Global Media Congress and the opportunities it offers news agencies to access media markets in the GCC and MENA region, have B2B meetings, build networks of key media industry players in a live setting, transfer knowledge in the field of media, discuss investment opportunities, and build partnerships, Nathan Waugh, portfolio director (Capital Event), gave an introductory presentation during the workshop.
The associated conference, with the theme “Shaping the Future of the Media Industry,” was also highlighted. The three main topics it addresses are youth and the future of media, innovation and cutting-edge media technology, and investment and prospects in media.
The conference is anticipated to feature presentations on innovation, the introduction of new products, workshops, and discussions on artificial intelligence.
The congress, according to Waugh’s presentation, will be a safe haven for startups and opportunities for people and businesses to showcase their abilities. He also noted that startups will have the chance to present their business ideas to important stakeholders, investors, and venture capital firms.
In order to promote business opportunities between exhibitors and international and regional hosted buyers, the congress will also offer a hosted buyer program, according to Waugh.
The Global Media Congress organizers and representatives of UNA member news organizations held conversations during the sessions about how to get the most out of the gathering.
