DPWH reports that ‘Build, Build, Build’ has resulted in the creation of almost 6 million employment

In the past four years, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has created nearly 6 million employment for Filipinos via the government’s “Build, Build, Build” (BBB) programs.

“These initiatives create employment while they are being carried out. We generated 6.5 million employment between 2016 and 2020,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said at a news conference on the BBB program’s status report in Makati City on Friday.

He went on to say that the positions available are for engineers and construction workers, among other things.

Villar said that they want to hire more than one million people this year.

He went on to say, “Our goal for 2021 is 1.6 million jobs.”

With a budget of PHP8 trillion, the government plans to build roads, bridges, airports, and trains, among other things, under the BBB program.

Meanwhile, Villar said that the remaining civil works would be completed quickly in order to open the new and renovated Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge by the end of the month.

“We are here on-site to show you that the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge’s foundation and superstructure have been completed, and we are sure that the remaining work on the approach road and ancillary/miscellaneous works will be completed by July 2021,” he added.

Villar, along with Presidential Adviser for Flagship Programs and Projects Secretary Vince Dizon, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, and DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil Sadain, inspected the nearly completed bridge project across the Pasig River, which connects Estrella Street in Makati City to Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.

When finished, the new bridge, which has been expanded from two to four lanes, will be able to handle up to 50,000 vehicles per day, improving traffic in the region and decongesting Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa).

The DPWH-UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1 (Bilateral) is in charge of the bridge modernization project, which is financed by a Chinese grant together with the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge.
