DOT educates vendors in Panglao and Virgin Island
Following recent allegations of overcharging for seafood on the island, the Department of Tourism (DOT) has started a training program for vendors and service providers in Virgin Island in Panglao, Bohol.
The DOT began training vendors and service providers on the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence (FBSE) on Wednesday through the Region 7 (Central Visayas) Office, in coordination with the Bohol Tourism Office and the municipality of Panglao, the department announced on Thursday. This was done as promised by Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco.
The training course was attended by 34 people in all, including proprietors of food stands and their personnel as well as members of the Panglao Island Protected Seascape (PIPS) Protected Area Management Board (PAMB).
The modular course’s emphasis was on the core principles of Filipino culture, which were translated into the Boholian dialect as Makamay-likha, Makatao, Makakalikasan, Makabansa, Masayahin, May Bayanihan, and May Pag-asa.
Its key themes included service recovery, understanding visitor demands, and excellence in customer service.
These are fundamental principles that Filipinos adhere to on a daily basis. By incorporating it into our interactions with clients, we contribute to the development of respect for the Creator, environmental awareness, cordiality, helpfulness and civility, love of nation, and optimism, according to Frasco.
The attendees thanked the DOT for the training and agreed that service delivery needs to be improved.
The participants recited a vow when the seminar came to a close, pledging to uphold FBSE throughout the course of their tasks.
A group of tourists from the Virgin Islands uploaded a list of the costly seafood meals they had ordered on social media. The DOT investigated the event when the post became popular.
Frasco has made plans public for facilitating an inter-agency technical working group to improve the ability of microbusiness owners to offer high-quality tourism services.
The FBSE training has been given to individuals, small and medium-sized businesses, and internationally renowned businesses that cater to the tourism market.
