PBBM promotes improved PH-US relations in the areas of agriculture, economics, and energy.

On Thursday, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. expressed optimism for further economic, energy, and agricultural cooperation between the Philippines and the US.

Following his meeting with the US Congressional Delegation led by Senator Edward Markey at the Malacanang Palace in Manila, Marcos made clear his intention to increase Manila’s collaboration with Washington.

Marcos wrote on Facebook that it was a “pleasure” to meet with the US congressmen.

Marcos stated that he and the US Congressional Delegation also aimed to increase bilateral collaboration in the fight against illicit substances.

He stated, “We look forward to maintaining our relationship with the US in the fields of renewable energy utilization, agricultural development, economic reform, and reduction of the drug problem.

On the President’s official Facebook page, pictures from Marcos’ meeting with Markey and the US Congressional Delegation were posted.

In terms of help and support, the US government has been one of the Philippine government’s most reliable allies.

The US government granted a grant to a local company on August 6 to help it create up to three gigawatts of wind power capacity, which gave the Philippines’ effort to raise the proportion of renewable energy sources among its sources a boost.

Aboitiz Renewable Inc. received a grant from the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) so that it could perform a feasibility study for the construction of an offshore wind project with a maximum capacity of three gigawatts.

According to information from the US Department of State, the USTDA has funded a number of projects involving smart grids, renewable power generation, distributed energy, and energy storage technologies.

Additionally, on August 6, Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo announced that the US and the Philippines had decided to continue discussions on ensuring food security for Southeast Asian countries in the face of supply disruptions caused by the climate crisis, the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Manalo claimed that the two nations also agreed on the significance of democracy and human rights under the Marcos administration.

On August 11, Malacanang declared that the Marcos government would uphold the law while continuing its campaign against illicit drugs.
