To ensure a constant market for their agricultural products, the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) connected the North Cotabato farmers with an institutional buyer of cardava bananas.

For them to immediately perform collective marketing for its fresh cardava banana products, the DAR connected Liberty Fruits Inc. in Mua-an Kidapawan City with the Arakan River Irrigators Credit Cooperative (ARICCO) in Naje, Arakan.

The DAR trained ARICCO as a consolidator of clusters of smallholder cardava banana farmers from barangays Naje, Malibatuan, and Doroluman so they can collectively sell their bananas and have a just and more reasonable price for their goods, according to Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer II Charish Paa.

In a news release on Saturday, she stated that “ARICCO was able to commence their test marketing with a combined volume of 8,890 kilos of fresh cardava banana after a series of meetings and planning with the Arakan Municipal Agriculturist.”

According to Paa, the DAR would continue to support the farmers to give them a consistent market for their goods and improve the quality of their life.

As part of the DAR’s support services intervention, she explained, “we are connecting them with the institutional market to ensure that we might help develop the agricultural industry in the countryside.”

The initiative, Linking Smallholder Farmers (LinkSFarmM), was carried out by the DAR in collaboration with the local government and commercial organizations.
