The longest domestic submarine cable project in the nation, the US$150 million Philippine Domestic Submarine Cable Network (PDSCN), has connected eight provinces to the Globe fiber optic internet network.

The cable system has arrived in Lucena City, Boac in Marinduque, Calatrava in Romblon, Placer in Masbate, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Roxas City, and the island of Siargao in Surigao del Norte, according to a statement released by Globe on Monday.

“The locations are among PDSCN’s 33 landing places, with a total cable length of around 2,500 kilometers. It stated that the project started in July and is expected to be completed by April of the following year.

The PDSCN is anticipated to boost the nation’s connectivity to support the public administration, educational system, commercial sector, and leisure industry.

Further cable landings will be performed in the upcoming months, including in Mactan, Cebu, and Boracay, Aklan. Following that, fiber connections would be turned on, it stated.

A collaboration between Globe, Infinivan Inc., Eastern Communications, and Kokusai Cable Ship Co. Ltd., using cable made by Nexans, saw the project underway in July at Subic Bay.
