Climate change adaptation and mitigation are important priorities for the PBBM administration.

The Philippines’ resilience and adaptability to the “new normals” of climate change are at the top of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s administration’s national priority, he assured on Wednesday.

Marcos provided the assurance in a speech at the multi-stakeholder event for 2022 that the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) hosted at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.

“As your president, I can guarantee you that protecting the environment and strengthening our nation’s capacity to cope with the new normals brought on by climate change are top priorities at the federal level. We ensure that our actions will help us become more intelligent, responsible, and sustainable in all we do. “During the forum’s three-day opening, he remarked.

The future will bring many challenges, but we must remain resilient and recognize that we must all engage in battle—and, more importantly, win it.

Marcos praised the DENR for setting up a forum that brings together many stakeholders. These parties are anticipated to work with the agency and other state departments to design and implement programs for disaster resilience, climate change adaptation, and sustainable development.

He expressed confidence that the forum will give participants a forum to identify the “unique and shared” challenges that each sector faces, foster cooperation, and gather data on priorities that might be included in the DENR’s policy agenda and the multi-year Roadmap for Programs, Activities, and Projects.

Marcos remarked, “I realize it’s simply the beginning of a difficult but crucial mission of defending the only Earth and home we know. “We are stewards in this collective conflict, not soldiers. There won’t be any weapons, just actions, and routines to refine.”

Marcos also underlined the significance of using and growing the nation’s natural riches and wealth.

He expressed hope that the event would result in “fruitful” discussions that would align the policy objectives of the DENR.

He said this while acknowledging the necessity to talk about environmental protection, conservation, and management strategies, given how vulnerable the nation is to the effects of climate change.

“I anticipate that we will be able to accelerate the DENR’s mission of mobilizing our capacities and resources to preserve, maintain, and manage our environment along with the outcomes of this meeting,” Marcos added. I further anticipate that this forum will provide a strategic course for maximizing the nation’s natural resources and advancing equitable and sustainable economic growth.

The DENR forum aims to promote partnership among stakeholders, facilitate inclusive dialogues among all the agency’s stakeholders, share stakeholders’ experiences working with various national government agencies, and identify multi-stakeholder initiatives that use science, technology, and innovation to achieve distinctive values across various sectors.

Marcos thought the forum would produce significant results that would improve the nation’s resources and riches.

More significantly, he said, he wanted this event to be a chance for the public and commercial sectors to actively engage together to translate an integrated, multi-stakeholder resilience framework into actions that would support the further expansion of this industry.

If everyone is devoted and determined to “guide our habits and systems in a greener direction,” as Marcos stated, then the fight against climate change will be effective.

“It is impossible to win by overcoming an obvious adversary. We will be able to say that we have addressed the challenges that our people will confront as a result of the start of climate change when we can see that we are gradually averting a worldwide crisis, “added Marcos.

He said, “And triumphant will we be when we see that our children will have clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, and lands and oceans not just to explore but also to responsibly harness for their sake, the sake of all Filipinos, and the welfare of all humanity.
