Marcos’ decision to accept an agricultural position is supported by 63%

Results of a recent PUBLiCUS Asia survey show that President Ferdinand R. Marcos’s choice to lead the Department of Agriculture (DA) has received a high level of support.

According to the Pahayag 2022 Quarterly Survey results from PUBLiCUS Asia, 63% of respondents support the President’s decision to take on the agriculture portfolio.

The decision of the President was opposed by 15% of Filipinos, while 22% were unsure.

With 1,500 adult respondents, the poll was carried out between September 16 and 20, 2022.

In a Thursday discussion with the media, Marcos remained steadfast in his choice to continue leading the DA despite calls from detractors to name a full-time secretary to lead the division.

He added that other DA officials supported his choice and prepared him to resign if no longer required.

“I am concentrating solely on the department. I brought up the matter with some of the DA’s personnel, employees, and secretaries, and they asked me not to [leave], which is why I’ve stayed on until now,” he stated.

Marcos claimed that the DA’s issues were “extremely deeply rooted” and that it was up to him as president to “alter and turn it around.”

Once the structural reforms are implemented, and the DA’s duties are properly institutionalized, he declares he will name someone to succeed him.

“Saka ako bibitaw (that’s when I’ll stand down) when we can declare that the DA’s functions are properly institutionalized, the structural reforms that we need to make in the DA have been made, and the appointments in the DA have already been made. Because if that happens, they won’t need the department’s president or me to lead it.

To demonstrate to Filipinos that he gives the agriculture industry “top priority,” Marcos declared in June last year that he would lead the DA.

He promised to prioritize raising rice production and restructuring the agriculture department as DA chief.

According to a Pulse Asia study conducted earlier this month, the Marcos administration also received excellent approval ratings for how it handled urgent national issues in the nation.

His administration scored “majority approval ratings” on 11 of the 13 issues, including attending to the needs of disaster-stricken areas and preventing the spread of Covid-19, according to a Pulse Asia poll on October 6.
